Lol, My photos do leave a lot to be desired dont they !!!!. The ones I had of the Pygmies sitting on my thumb were mistaken for pygs sitting on my toe- maybe I just have weird body parts. No, Im honestlynormally proportioned.Little no name is from the clutch which started hatching on 23/10/06. He hasn't got a name yet as I have 3 to choose from and haven't decided yet. Sadly the pics dont do him justice at all as he has incredible sort of foxy red/brown background with very pale yellowy stripes and swirls. He's all head, eyes and tail at the mo and reminds me of a pygmy cham.

You must post some more pics Jan I want to see how he does.
A wee Franz Junior. Franz was very small when I got him and took ages to take off, but he turned out well. Franzs many wives are also about half the size of Franz.
I have found panther babies to be slow growers, unlike yemen's that usually grow like weeds. I have found with various panther locales that on average they seem to take of around the 6-8 month mark. Not sure why that is. Anyone else got any ideas? Mind you steady growth is not a bad thing, forced rapid growth via power feeding is not a good idea in my view. Just a thought but I would imagine the internal organs need time time to develop and would not do so well if bombarded with overly high protein enriched foods, I tend to let my chams eat what they want but not force them onto large foods until they are ready naturally to move onto next stage feeding regimes.
I am not qualified though to make to many comments on power feeding as I have not tried this method, just my gut instinct feels this might not be a good thing. Would love to hear from anyone who has tried this method and what the long term results have been? _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Hi Rick, You know my views and opinions on power feeding, I simply abhor the idea, to me its almost as bad as putting the poor creature on steroids. I have spoken to a few rep keepers who admit to doing it. In my view it's like those mothers of babies who want them to be sitting up, crawling, weaned etc all in record time- you know the sort who flash word cards at 6 month old infants!!!. Surely its better for all especially the animal if growth is allowed to occur naturally at its own steady pace. I know looking at Imp the Blimp you'd swear I had him on those addabollock steroids but I can assure you the reason hes a chunky big lad is because hes been fed the right foods, in the right amounts from the day he came out of the egg. I am just hoping that the picasso will follow suit.

in my time working with panthers i have found there growth to be rapid very, most of mine will eat everything they see,i find 2 smaller feeds a day for the growing smaller ones gives good growth results you should be aiming for a shed every 2 weeks.however i have found the first stages of growth in some of my animals to be slow to get going then speeds up
great looking panther jan hope he does really well for you x
this i a pic i took just now of my Picasso at 12 weeks |
