Quote:
Dear all,

The Cockpit Country is one of the last strongholds, not only of the Jamaican boa, but of approximately another 1500 endemic species!!! Two months ago the Jamaican government gave a prospecting mining license to a private company. If this project is realized, a large ecosystem of limited internal fragmentation and its own microclimate will be destroyed, along with the beauty it accommodates. You find find more information at:

http://cockpitcountry.org

A group of local scientists and numerous Jamaican citizens are fighting against this decision. In order to achieve their goal, they need the help of as many people as possible from around the world!

We could all help them by signing their on-line petition!

Best regards,
Athanasia Tzika

If any of you are able to take 5 minutes to sign the petition I would be most grateful, I spent 3 weeks in Jamaica early in 2006 with the Jamaican Boa project and can attest that Cockpit Country is one of the most unique places I have ever been, to loose it just because of Bauxite mining is ridiculous. The first set of signatures will be delivered this week to the Prime Minister of Jamaica, so if you could sign asap then hopefully we can make a difference. Any and all help would be amazing
Bless up

Al

Went all over the place and sampled over 70 snakes, mostly from captives but a few that we found in Cockpit. To be honest the time of year wasn't great. What time of year were you there?

Dont worry about it, I get them for various subjects every day, but this particular project is close to my heart, so I thought I would post. I won't flood the forum with them, but if people are interested, then every signature is a help.

Thanks again all

Al

Very cool stuff, who were you working with on the Croc round-ups? Sure they must be the same people I was working with.

Was I mad?

What species is that --> pointing to an American croc!

Explained 20+ years of herp keeping etc, and we had a great time, all I can remember is the boat driver was Clarence!
