How complicated do you want to get? My group of youngsters, about half grown I would say , are in a small plastic tank with no furnishings other than a lump of cork bark covered in sphagnum moss and an inch and a half of water. They are at room temperature. I replace the water entirely once a week with clean dechlorinated water and that`s it. Once they have grown larger I will probably set up a larger more permanant set up for them.
The key factors for a permanant set up are shallow filtered water, and haul out places and caves. If you have living plants you will need a flourescent light for them but as has already been said, be careful if using the 8" high tank that you mentioned before as lighting could well cause the temperature to rise to an uncomfortable level for the toads in so confined a space.
Good luck. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

I used to keep mine in a similar way to Peter. Substrate of gravel ramped at one end, with about 1.5 inches of water. I had sphagnum moss at the 'land' end with some rocks and bark hides. Like Peter, I didn't use any heating or special lights. Natural light was enough.

No pictures I am afraid but it is not a complicated set up to describe! I am sure that there are some pictures on the forum elsewhere however.
Rick has some pictures of a permanant set up somewhere and I am sure he will oblige you with one when he sees this thread. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

hi, I keep a few bombina orientalis, bombina nad variegata orientalis cross breds (the cross breds are a friends accident which i am keeping and not breeding from!)
I threw together a quick tank today for them to stay in at my parents over the hoilidays, and took some photos. Its just a basic tank, but works!
First, i got a fishtank, a 24" one with hood and metal stand (light in hood). This was picked up for about 20 quid through the local paper.
I cleaned it, and replaced the photographic desert background with the tropical one which was on the other side! i also put the filter in at this point.
This done, I put gravel, cork bark islands and several plastic plants in it.
All that needed to be done then was add water, some real plants and toads!
