Heard a very interesting story from a guy who is attending the Defra meetings that are shaping our reptile keeping future.
This particular meeting was concerning DWA animals, Defra, RSPCA, Scientists, and a Pet Care Trust reprosentative were in attendance.
They were reading out animals that needed to be discussed if they should be added or removed from the DWA schedule, the RSPCA rep basically said ADD all animals including a Capybara, after spending some time pushing for the capybara to be added he then raised the question " just what is a capybara?"
This should give you an idea of just how bad things are....the most powerful animal charity lobbying against us and they DON'T even know what the animals are they are lobbying against...
Here's a pic of them...(oh yeah, they are vegetarians)

It doesn't surprise me...what chance do we have against that.... A friend of mine received a phone call from the local branch of the RSPCA asking her to come and collect a snake. They said we think it's a carpet python or a corn snake?? On collection it was in fact an adder. You would think they would at least know our native species. My friend later released the adder in a protected area. _________________ Best wishes, Jackie

some interesting points were raised at the end of the fbh conference yesterday, re: the antis/rspca. Unless we do something as a group...were pretty much fu*ked.
did everyone in the ihs get the latest herptile mag? see the artical about the rspca officer who "bravely" grabbed a deadly venomous animal with her hands......wtf?
it was a fwc, which...um..doesnt need a dwa but they(rspca) says it does. But thats besides the point.....if the snake was super deadly(Rather than just quite venomous but back fanged like the fwc) and she was tagged....they would use it against us. Heck if you dont know what something is..but assume its deadly because all snakes are venomous *snide* you wait for an expert or get the right tools.
Im not concerned by the grunts at the bottom...alot of them really do want to help out and stop cruelty...but alot of them also buy into the 'cow dung' fed them by the morons at the top. I think it was mentioned that 18 of 25 people on the ruling council(sounds sinister...lol) of the rspca are part of animal aid.

right..I have been reading up on the foe some more:-) As a group.....we need to do something about this. Im not talking about this forum, im talking about anyone interested in keeping reptiles or just wants to cut abit of bs out of this world.
http://www.animalaid.org.uk/xmas/fayre.htm
......It is not illigal to stand on a street and pass out flyers....about the lies and bs they (antis) are peddleing. The people going to this fayre...wont all be morons, just a high % of them.
Im just angry about this all...and needed to rant some more:-)scott if swearing isnt allowed on this forum too....just say so and I wont again but....it really 'wee's' me off that they go after the kids...school talks, websites etc..I know this is a very good idea/tactic..but its bs:-( Just because kids are easily swayed to a certain way of thinking..doesnt mean you should do it.
as maddox says, for every animal they dont eat...im eating 3

Matt, if kids ask you about reptiles you tell them the good sides because it is what you believe, that is all the anti's are doing. They believe that reptiles are bad (right or wrong) and they are trying to protect them. This may have the knock on effect that they will reduce the hobby in the long run as those kids grow up but i doubt very much that is why most of them show up to schools.
We fight for what we believe in and so do they. _________________ TFA

fighting for what you believe in is fine, everyone has to accept different opinions etc but my first post was there to give an example of the fact they are fighting for what they don't even know about, so how can they have an opinion?
This RSPCA representative should of been expelled from the meeting and the RSPCA banned from attending anymore.
I can't remember who it was that was quoted saying that they "would sooner see Polar Bears extinct in the wild than kept in zoos or safari parks". I must admit that I would PREFER to see them in the wild but that or nothing is just plain stupid. The world is becoming smaller every year, where on earth do these people think all the animals will live as we slowly cut down and destroy their habitat. _________________

someone edited my post, grrr
dan, I know there only fighting for what "they" belive in..but these antis and animal activists are mostly brainwashed crowd following sheep...*ahem*
next they will call for human culling due to their negitive effect on wildlife and their environments...um....ok not seeing a problem there, lets start with the antis and animal activists
Im not sorry for my opinions but I dont mean to offend people, its just how can a group of brainwashed easily led morons have opinions when its been handed to them....its just plain stupid.
example of stupidity, you have read that peta want the um "liberation" of ALL animals? including um..guide dogs. Because um, if I rememeber correct..its cruel? The guide dogs I have seen seem to love their jobs, and its a very honorable job of which they are loved and respected and trusted in return.....those poor mistreated dogs, how dare those blind people treat them so...*ahem*
