Ok, i need some quick questions answered
1) I am using a small heat mat, on the outside wall of my tank, but since i bought the thing, it seems to have not been putting out as much heat, and the temps have gone from like 76-70ish in the last day or so, i dont understand why, anyone know?
2)I hate the look of my lid, and i am hoping to get a new lid, it will either be glass or acrylic. Do they need to be drilled for ventilation foor my future crestie, or are they ok if they are solid.
3) if i decide to get glass, i am thinking of getting a red heat bulb, if i have this about <1 foot from the glass lid, will it still heat up the tank, and light it up for nocturnal viewing, if so, what wattage should i get?? |

If you get a new top for your tank it will need to have holes in it for ventilation. It's recommended that the top of the tank should be partially or completely screened to allow for ventilation. Mine have 1/8 inch aluminum screening on the converted fish tanks, framed with wood for strength.
I keep my geckos at around 21 to 24oC (about 72 to 76oF I think) through the day, dropping a coupe of degrees over night and I find that my house temperature is sufficient to keep the tanks at this temperature without needing additional heating. If you are finding that your tank is not warm enough I would suggest using a 40 watt red bulb but make sure that the geckos can not burn themselves on it and you should make sure that the temperature of the enclosure doesn't get over 29oC (85oF) as can cause the gecko to become stressed which can lead to illness or death.
I hope this helps a little. _________________
