Today, I picked up/rescued a sub adult male Desert Horned Lizard. It's a Phrynosoma Platyrhinos and seems to relish wax worms.

I previously was under the impression that all DHL's were skittish, but already this little guy will approach my hand even without the offer of food. I'll post some photos soon. Has anyone else got or has had DHL's?

Also does anyone know of any wholesalers/breeders that supply the pet trade and have CB DHL's available? I'm asking, because I'm friends with the owner of my local exotics pet shop, and after seeing my little DHL, are very interested in getting some. However the only DHL's available from their regular suppliers, are WC DHL's from Monkfield's.

Any ideas for a name for the little guy?

I have a well established british ant colony with a tube linking their tank to the DHL's vivarium. So as the ants come in search of food at a steady rate the DHL washes behind his ears and tucks in. It'll be interesting when I get a few females as to whether there is a pecking order for food!?

Remember to not feed just ants, further 'research' is going on into these animals and its appearing that ants don't make up as much of their diet as was first thought. Young black crickets can also be used along with mealworms and waxworms Wink

Hi Scott, I'll have some picture as soon as I can get my digital camera working. I feed him on micro brown crickets. Although he seems to prefer medium sized crickets. I give him 2 waxworms a day and he jumps at them.

I've got myself in a bit of a pickle. I ordered 2x sub-adult females for my adult male. I was told they were CB, although it now turns out that they're WC Long term captives. What should I do?

Make sure you worm them even if the previous owner says they've already been treated then treat them as you would if they were cb, making sure not to introduce them to any other parts of your collection. Keep them in a quarantine viv for a few weeks and check on them.
