Ok I want to set up a mister sytem for 30 plus cham vivs.
I have been told frog type mister systems are not suitable, seems to be a consensus about this from various folk. Apparently the spray is to fine
I have been advised that a green house type mains fed system would be good, timer valve on mains outlet, pipework to sprayers and drippers. Quite an economical way of achieving a system apparently. Anyone got any ideas or practical experiences to share please, or any multi viv home made systems? Any info about any aspect of this would be great.
Thanks. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

To be honest Rick i think if your gonna need to feed all the vivs off of one pump, its gonna have to be powerful and will no dount create the fine spray that you dont want.
I don't really use misting systems unless on very large tanks (over 60cm cubes) I prefer hand spraying as it gives me dily contact with the animals. _________________ Paul

Yes it is a jewel system I beleive, I did get a quote from them a while back, pricey but looks like good kit.
Yes I think your right Paul, water is water at the end of the day and if its a fine mist it will still end up as droplets on the leaves for the chams to drink. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Rick, I used the spray on the outside of the mesh viv, the water collected on the mesh and dripped down in nice size droplets, plus a small amount would also pass straight through into the viv.
You could also fix a 'lamp shade' type deli cup around the spray head to control the spread and make bigger droplets over a smaller area. I would say the misting systems...if tweaked...are perfect for chameleons _________________

Rick,
B&Q do a greenhouse irrigation system. They do various component based ones where you can buy extra drippers and pipe to work them and they can link up to a hozelock timer switch system. I looked at setting one up a couple of years ago, but as we still only have the one cham I just made a simple gravity fed dripper and added a dartfrog mister.

a few words for you rick shurflow pumps 8095-901-890 produces 125 psi!!! will run 100 nozzles no problem, use the black nozzles from tefen these provide heavy rain fall and are just what you are looking for the pump will run directly from the mains electric and can run for upto an hour with no problems you can buy an additonal heat sink if your worried about over heating, the pump is a diamond! and will also run dry not that it should tho but just in case |

Aha thank you Scott Col and Luke. Lots of ideas now. I assume an electric pump type system does not require the feeder tank to be high as not gravity fed, as pumped.
Drainage is not an issue each viv has a slopping floor and drainage outlet that can run off via a small pipe. Thanks for all the advice everyone, much appreciated. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
