I just bought a baby baby veiled named Houdini. He seems awsome. But.. he seems to be walking on the ground a lot! more then usuall. and He is very dark, like an army green sort of.

Im watching him rite now, and hes walking on the ground and clawing at the back-dropp Confused

is this all normal? i got him yesterday morning.
i just wanna make sure hes ok.

Has he descended to the ground, or did you place him there?
Are there enough branches (he obviously wants to climb if he's clawing the back-drop)?
Is there sufficient foliage for him to hide in?

Any viv pics?

Here is his tank. Its just a 10 gallon right now. but i will obvilsy upgrade as he grows.

and he is the little Houdini.

Aww hes a lovely lil thing.What are his temps in the viv? Does he have a thermal gradient? I ask because this being lower and clawing at the tank could be a sign hes too warm and has no cooler area to retreat to. From his pics he doesnt look dark in colour. feeding he should be ok. Whats the size of his viv and dont mind me asking but is it a converted aquarium?

looks in good condition, try and add a few more of those fake plants actually on the branches so that he can feel safe and unwatched while basking. At night they tend to sleep on the very ends on thin branches, that way they can feel if a predator is coming after them.

Awsome help guys! I think whats wrong is what Jan pointed out. I have been using a 100W bulb. I just put a 60W in. His temps are 80 in the cold and 100 in the hot side. And i was planning on adding more fake plants. So he feels more secure.
And he is in a 10 gallon fish tank rite now, but when he gets bigger i will move him into a 29 gallon fish tank, then into a huge screen viv. I want him in a smaller tank while hes a baby so i can keep an eye on him.

Glad we could help you Hun.Its really nice when folk ask for advice and help and then actually take that advice, hats of to you for wanting to do whats best for Houdini- as so many don't. Good luck with Houdini, good move lowering the bulb wattage, approx 93f at hot end and down to 75f cool end if you can monitored by a dimmer stat, and loads of ventilation, yemen's like and need lots of ventilation stale air encourages respiratory tract infections. As Scott said lots of foliage for him to feel secure in. Looking good well done.
