I have two lace monitor babies that I held back from this year's clutches because I wanted to see how they turned out. Both were particularly stripey.

I managed to get two photos of one of them today (they are very shy). It's coming along well (keeping in mind that it is dirty and in need of a shed).

Yes they are living together, but I haven't noticed any aggression between them. They're growing at a fairly equal pace and appear to both be getting plenty of food.

Stunning animals, what sort of size would you expect to be able to sex them?

It depends on the individual, Scott. Some males look obviously male at a very small size/young age. Others start showing signs later. By the time they have a SVL of around 30cm I can be pretty sure, anything before that would be an educated guess.

Hi Dave,

I was looking through some old pics I have on a disc and came across this very blue looking juvie varius. Any ideas to what locality it is?

Hi Sean,

Most likely western NSW (Murray/Darling drainage). The adults end up a light grey with black stripes. The only adults I've seen with a fair bit of blue on them have been from southern NSW and Victoria - some of these animals have blue on the sides of the neck and head.
