I've been lurking here a while, only posting twice, both times were to give some defence to Reptile Stores that were being critised.
However, I have not 'officially' posted a 'hello', so thought I would. I am what you may call a 'born again Herper' having stopped keeping Snakes about 10yrs ago only to return to the world of Herpetology about three years ago. I currently have 6x snakes (mainly Lampropeltis) and a crested Gecko (hasn't everybody ).
I am curently in the process of converting half of my garage into a Reptile Room and need to just add a few pieces of insulation, and have just taken delivery of three more vivs which are awaiting heating etc.
Should be good when it is complete and I am looking forward to having all my animals in one place because at the moment they a rather spread out around the house .
I shall add some pics in the relevant sections, and look forward to being a little more active here.
Cheers all. |

Welcome to the forum . Also glad you are sticking around. Yes it`s normally the case that once a person is into herpetology and have a break, that they come back to it. I look forward to seeing your posts and seeing some pics of your new herp room. I am just about to move house myself and so will be looking for any inspiration available. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

welcome to the site.
Yep it's far nicer having everything in one room, although some how I've now managed to spread to two rooms in my garden, a quater of a porta cabin, and even passed Fiji's and Pied yemens to friends to look after due to lack of space
Have fun kitting out your new room, you'll find you will keep thinking of new or different ways of setting it up before you get it just right. _________________

Welcome to the forum.
Have a peek on the rep house project thread under general, I just completed my garage herp room conversion.
Cellotex / kingspan insulation cant go wrong, even in this weather I only need the primary heater on for a couple of hours at night the daytime ambient temp is 80F. The garage is single brick construction, so kingspan in roof voids, plaster boarded over, jabalite on built up floor dpm and mrf over, and knauff insulation to walls, battened out and plaster boarded over. Garage door bolted shut, studding and kingspan and knuaff then plaster boarded over. There that should bore you. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Hi Rick, I will indeed have a read about your conversion. However, I have the added problem of having to keep just about everything very temporary because I rent my current house (long story). Also, I cannot permanently coles off my garage door because I need to get my bike in and out!.
The only permanent fittings are the floorboards that create a loft space and a strip light fitting.
The partition is rather cleverly held in place by six screws, a length of wood and some shelving units. Once finished I shall post up some pics, as it is hard to decribe without it sounding like a bodge. |
