|
|
Hi all,
I am after some opinions on this. I know what all the care sheets etc say but I am more after opinions of those of you that keep these snakes.
I have 2 yearling anerys, 2 18 month old miamis, a 5 month old snow, amel and crimson.
I also have a baby boa contrictor, a 2 year old royal and a 5ft gopher snake.
I am also buying 2 100% het for Piedbald Royals.
I am going to have vivs built for them all as half of the corns are in vivs and half are in tubs (smaller ones). The boa is in a faunarium, the royal is in a nice viv and the gopher is in a big corner viv.
However now I want all my snakes to be in the same area.
I would ideally like the vivs to be an adequate size for them as adults, a 'home for life'.
I fully understand that snakes in general don't like open space but my snakes are all VERY open to being out on display and eat without fail, so these vivs will have plenty of hides etc, but with lots of room.
So the ultimate question, a viv for life for a corn, a royal, a 5ft gopher and a boa what size would they be?
2ft?
3ft?
4ft?
5ft?
6ft?
Other?
I look forward to your opinions!
Many Thanks

These are the sizes I would recommend, for the Corn & Royal you could go a touch smaller if needed.
3ft x 2ft= Corn
4ft x 2ft=royal
5ft x 2ft=gopher
6ft x 2ft=boa
The gopher will be the most active snake overall. _________________

I would agree. Although a fairly large and robust animal, in proportion to the gopher, the boa wont be anywhere near as active. Proportion wise the gopher will require the more space. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Good question Dan, Gary asked about viv sizes and the sizes I gave are what I would recommend if someone was starting out and wanted an actual viv.
The cages are larger than what I use in my racking but there are two reasons why I would still recommend larger.
Firstly a larger cage is easier to 'get right' especially when creating heat gradients whereas a smaller tub the gradient is very 'tight'.
Secondly a viv is more exposed so ideally you would need more hides and cage furniture to give the animal a sense of security, in a tub they have that already by the nature of the cage (opaque plastic, slightly darker lighting).
If I know nothing about someones experiance etc it's far better to recommend the easier option, i.e. larger viv sizes, it makes the margins for error that much bigger. _________________

i feel a 3x2 ft would house an adult royal for life
boa would say 6x3x2 for an adult boa
not a clue on the others as i know nothing about them _________________ boas and burms |

As a general rule:
The longest side of the viv should be at least 2/3rds of the snakes length.....
OR
1 square foot for every foot of snake _________________ 2.2 BRBs, 0.1 Royal, 1.0 Amazon Tree Boas, 1.0 Kenyan Sand Boas, 0.1 Borneo Blood Python, 1.0 Iggy, 1.0 BD, 0.1 Chile rose, 0.0.1 Curly hair. |
