I have had a fine time matching up my Dendrobates auratus. To cut a long story short, I have now ended up with three different locales.
Laughing

First up are what most people seem to agree to be the nominat form from Costa Rica;

Then we have the group of what are quite clearly Dendrobates auratus "Taboga" (not tobago as they are commonly mispronounced). The green and black morph from Taboga Island off the coast of Panama.

Then the last group, which we are still debating, but looking more like being the nominat form of D. auratus from mainland Panama.

oooo the auratus man formally known as parrot strikes again!

they could be hawian pmsl the last group that is.. way back when they introduced auratus to the island and they nexploded along with jacksons chams and one or 2 others.

I think the hawian ones are CR and not panaminium Confused

PMSL Laughing

The 200 or so that were introduced to Oahu-Hawaii ack in 1932? They are similar but the background colour appears to be a lot blacker on these three compared to the dark chocolate on the race that you refer to in my opinion. Well at least on the pics I have seen anyway.

Here`s one from Hawaii;

...and here`s a couple from mainland Panama;

Confused

Could well be the lighting but the frogs I had sat in front of me last night definately display a noticable difference in background colouration. All three of the Tabago group exhibit the dark chocolatey background as in this animal;

Whereas the other group all have a glossy black background as has the other nominat group. Here is an animal from the non tabago (in my opinion) group;

The combination of the animals from the group that the last pic is from having a blacker background (in the flesh not on camera) than the confirmed tabagos as well as having a greater proportion of green than any of the tabago morphs makes me go along with them not being any of the tabago morphs. A third factor that I have taken into consideration and which was pointed out to me yesterday also was that the tabagos are definately lighter built. The other group have more of the sturdiness of the nominat form.
I have asked their breeder`s opinion and await his reply. All this is just speculation at this point of course. Wink
