Sadlt tonight I found our corn snake has hung herself in one of these boxes. Theres a tiny gap in the top between the lid and the base even when secured and our 2 yr old got into it, couldn't get out and suffocated. I'm totally gutted to say the least ( she was in there as still a little girl despite the age) Please be aware of this prob if using these for older snakes xxxx |

More than welcome Scott, tbh I thought someone had shut it on her until it was demonstrated how they can do it, I would really not like anyone to have the same experience and I know they 'look' like an alternative to the conti's but I won't be using them again xxxx |

Really sorry to hear about this tragedy
Our Milksnake has a habit of climbing round the gap between the lid and the base. He'll be moving into a standard viv shortly as my Pythons are outgrowing their vivs. In the meantime I'll see if I can come up with a way of blocking up that channel. Strips of heavy duty foam should do the trick. My Cornsnake doesn't do that as he's quite a big snake and wouldn't fit in there.
This sounds very similar to the snake who died in a similar fashion after getting stuck in the rim below a water bowl (think it was over in America that happened) which I highlighted in another thread.
Very, very sad _________________ 3 Royal Pythons - Byron, Bobby & Rosie

To be on the safe side, I'll swap out my Really boxes for Conticos (I can use the Really boxes to store my craft stuff so they won't be wasted).
Does anyone know of a supplier of Conticos as I haven't seen any down here? (Swindon) _________________ 3 Royal Pythons - Byron, Bobby & Rosie

Yes I've been told a saftey measure for these boxes is to pin down the sides with large bulldog clips, Luna was quite small still so thats an obvious factor in what happened. They should be totally safe for the larger snakes it was posted more to highltight that they could cause probs rather than to say throw them all out and never use them again, thank you to everyone that posted sympathetic messages I really appreciate them xxxxxxx |

Sorry to hear of your loss. The gap between the box and the lid of RUBs is a worry. I had a young snake escape through it in one of the smaller sizes..
