as the temp has dropped outseide i guess its dropped inside his tank, its very warm in there in the summer as our house gets really hot, so gues s that must be it, its around 70 to 80 all day and night, he only has a heat mat but its not that warm, he will lie on it if he wants to. so what happens if they cool down?
i have had him a year now and not noticed this last year.
thanks for any info

Being North American, he would brumate in the natural state. I am cooling all my colubrids now. I start by not feeding them for a good fortnight, then I gradually cool them till they are down to the early 50`s (F), and they stay like this for 3 months with just access to water.

It`s up to you. Some people keep them awake, you will have to turn the dial on the thermostat up a tad to keep him at his summer temps if you do. If you are going to brumate him, make sure he has emptied his gut before you cool him, ie, dont feed him for a fortnight BEFORE you gradually reduce the temps (and turn out the lights).

Mine are housed in the front room.I found last year mine cooled ok over winter. The central heating brings the air temps up to 22C by day but they drop at night when it's off.I just switch the mats off.
