Nice varanid, I've never seen this species being kept in captivity before. What are they like to keep? (i.e. are they good captives/any successful breedings??) Cheers Cool

Good luck with those Martin. I remember when they first came on the scene in the trade back in the late 1990's along with melinus. Funny how common melinus is now but the tri coloured monitors not the same, I think its to do with the region being quite unsafe at times for trappers.

as far as i now. nobody ever breeded them. they are kept like indicus. the enclusure will be 3mx1,5m high x 1,5m with a large pool and a lot to climb on.

this is the first time i have seen a pair of yuwonoi and i don“t know anybody who is keeping them ( of course there must be some people) .

@ sean thanks, would be a dream to breed them but "only" to keep them is very very nice

here 2 pics of the female

Wow, those are some incredible looking animals. Don't see to many of those around. I hear they are quite nasty though, as far as temperments go and messy. I wish you the best of luck with them, and keep us updated on them.

Hey Thomas you would be suprized how much there actually go for, they are not that expensive when you compare them to some of the Australian varanids prices, even some indo ones are more expensive to buy. I do not know how much Martin payed for them but I do know who sold him them. I know a few people who keep them but not had any luck in breeding.
