Hi everyone,

i was just wondering, if i got a hatchling Crestie and kept it in a faunarium how would i heat it? would a heat mat do? Also, how would i raise a baby Crestie until it would be sexable so i can see if it is suitable to house with another Crestie? I am asking you this as i will be getting a Crestie soon, (possibly from Scott ) and i just wanted to know exactly how to care for a small baby if i got one.
Thanks in advance,
Sonny.

Hi Sonny

Cresteds require a temperature of about the mid 70'sF. So, providing you don't live in a very cold house, there will be no need to use a heat mat. I raise hatchlings individually in a medium sized petpal - they seem to do well in these. I feel it's best to make sure you know the sexes of Cresteds before you introduce them to other cresteds.

Have a look at Allen Repashy's article:

Any more questions ask away... Very Happy

How old roughly does a Crestie take to be able to be sexed?
Has anyone got any pics of their hatchling Crestie setups?

hi sonny,
it all depends on how much and what you feed it. 6 months is about average but can be up to a year.

You want to keep the set up simple.

Paper towel on the floor, a few fake plastic plants, a water dish, a feed dish (for CGD/baby food) and that should do. Once he's a good size you can start to really plant up the viv and make it look great.

I'll take some pics tomorrow, although my set ups aren't quite what you would want in your home, mine are very clinical, designed for exactly what the crested needs and for quick maintenance.

OK Cheers mate, i'm gonna go for something basic anyway while the Cresties are hatchlings, and when they are old enough, i will be putting them in a more naturalistic viv.
