As it says on the tin...
Built a lovely setup tonight for fbt, 50/50 land water. Used hydroleca under coco. All looked sexy until I added the water...
All the 'leca floated to the surface! Do I need to leave it longer to soak up water? or does it always float?!
Rite, am off to cry!
Thanks in advance.

did you not use a substrate divider as advise
it will sink down as the LECA soaks up water. relax chill open a stella _________________ Paul

Nobody told me to use a divider!!!
Shall I leave it to soak overnight then?! Any other suggestions? Had to strip the whole tank again as coco ran straight into the water!!! |

Not sure how you have set it up. As it says on the tin? Leca is great as a "foudation" as the balls create a greater surface area for bacteria to colonise. On top of the leca a barrier should be put in place such as horticultural membrane. Then put your compost or whatever substrate you are using on top.
It`s common use is merely for creating humidity around plants . A thin layer is put around the plants and water generally added to just below the level of the leca. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Doh, I had followed someone pics, and use it on the base of tank (land end), slopping towards the water, rocks by water to stop it rolling away, then the coco stuff ontop... |

I see. Well you need a membrane between the two to stop them mixing ideally. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Ye, I had that oyfgabe when trying to set mine up. Fortunately, I've come up with a clever divider, so I don't end up with bubkess.
*grins* MJ, it's spelt Oy Vey, or אוי וויי
Apologies if the original spelling doesn't show up, I'm not sure if the system will handle it. I probably spelt it wrong in the non-roman translation anyway, I don't have a good grasp of written Yiddish .
And oyfgabe translates as "problem" or "lesson"! |
