Hi, i was advised to put my bosc monitor on sand as it was cheap and easy to clean, however i've been reading around and alot of people are saying sand is bad? should i listen to this or not? if it is bad can anyone suggest any other substrates? |

Hi.
50/50 top soil/play sand mix. cheap, easy to get & they love it. make it as deep as you can 12-18" perfect. |

I would (personally) use less sand and more soil (80 / 20 mix)
50/50 is great for Australian varanids and desert species but Bosc's are from grassy plains and baron scrub lands. A higher % soil will also hold a burrow and humidity a bit better.
Hope this helps

I am fostering a savannah at the mo and i have just put him on beech shavings and small wood chip - though he has a hard time walking on it - bit slippery as you can imagine..
Is soil and sand a common substrate? wise to go change it as soon as?

Could try the soil/sand mix with a layer of bark/wood chip over the top, may solve both ingestion and slipping and layer of bark/chip would simulate vegetation layer. _________________ 1.0.0 Eublepharis Macularis (albino)
