I was rummaging around in my meal worm culture and found these pod type things they have a caterpillar in each one. I guess they may have come in on some green salad I chucked in for the mealies, maybe cabbage whites?

Any ideas anyone?

Hmm. Did you open the pods to see, or are some still intact?
If so, I'd be tempted to keep one/some, keep feeding it whatever it might have eaten, and find out!

Very Happy
Yay, creepycrawly!

I have some fabulous caterpillar pictures somewhere - I might have to post them later.

Rick,
I agree that they are not cabbage whites. I don't think they are fruit beetles either; definately caterpillars.

My guess is that they are either one of the moths that co-habit in bee hives, eating bee crapola and the like, or one of the stored product pest species like the Indian meal moth. Most of these are in the Lepidoptera family Pyralidae.

Thanks for that Mark. I shall sleep more soundly tonight! Wink

Are they worth keeping or shall I just feed them to something Laughing

If they are not going to turn into some beautiful creature then I cant be bothered . Twisted Evil
