How nutritious are Morios? I know they have a hard exoskeleton made of chitin which is suppose to be of no nutritional value but what about the innerds?

I do feed my Morios well. My beardie has gone off crix and locusts at the mo but lurves morios but I don't want to give him too many if they're not that great. but I want him to eat something aswell??

Please opinions on these would be grateful.

Im not too sure but I use them quite a lot and I give the morios loads of veggies and stuff so they are well gut loaded.

I then dust them before feeding!

Yummy!

Gary

Hi.
i feed them just like Gary. i would think their nutritional value would be very good, especially if gut loaded (spring greens, carrot, apple etc.) but not recomended as staple diet.

Yeah I gut load and dust too, but you don't think they're good as a staple? hmmm...fussy beardie, hopefully he'll get over it soon and realise that crix are yummy again Confused

I use morios as a staple diet for my leopard geckos, they are far far better than standard mealworms.

If you can though you should keep them a week after buying them and feed them well. I keep mine in a bucket of peat (slightly damp) and then give them defrosted rodents to eat.

So what is the best method to keep and breed these here morios then. I keep my mealies on bran and feed em carrot and veg every day and they are all breeding well. Any advice appreciated thank you.

Giants, I already culture the normal mealies. Am interested in culturing the big ones. Laughing

big ones are best kept in damp peat and fed a high quality dog biscuit diet (soak it in water and turn it into thick porridge), then just place that on the top of the peat.

Beetles can be kept on peat, then just put logs, cork bark or anything else for them to climb on a lay eggs in.

Keep the whole lot at 30c

I don't use any veg for the breeding / reaering colonies, but as I said above the feeders get a dead rat the night before I use them.
