Hi All
Last October my BT's finally stopped cuddling and started mating.
This is dad
This is mum
In early January she lai 18 eggs but only 4 looked fertile.
Sadly two eggs collapsed at the end of the first week but after 106 days this little guy appeared
On the 110th day the other egg collapsed. When I opened it there was a dead fully formed baby inside but it's neck and back were badly twisted.
The other baby is now nearly a foot long and growing fast.
Does any one know of any UK breeders of BT's past or present?

Forgot to say, the picture of mum is her building the nest in their sleeping box.
It meant the dad couldn't go to bed and it was probably the hardest place for me to get the eggs from with mum standing guard.

Hi Gordon, welcome to the site,
real nice baby well done.
How long had you had the adults for?
Also, what size enclosure are you keeping them in? _________________

Hi Gordon,
Beautiful blackthroats! They are some amazing animals, huh? And 109 days of incubation seems very short for V. albigularis? What temps. were they incubated at?
Cheers,

Hey Gordon looking good! I'm so happy to see someone breeding V.Albigularis in the UK. I have two V.A.Microstictus (both young females) and i will be looking for a male sometime in the future for a breeding project.
All the best and keep up the good work!

Hi Scott
Nice site you have here.
My female has been with me for five years now and was one of a pair I rehomed after they were confiscated by customs.
Once I knew she was a female I brought the male just over two years ago. Both of them are now over five years old.
Their enclosure runs along the front of my reptile house and is 4 metres long by 1.5 metres deep. It has two large double glazed (laminated) windows at the front which both animals love to sun bath in front of. I personally think the natural sun light has a lot to do with them breeding as they seem to react to the shorter days of autumn.

Hi Adrian
Yep, these guys don't just look good, they have character as well. I also like the fact that I can go in with them and interact, unlike a previous Nile monitor I had and a runt iguana that currently rules the roost in my other enclosure.
109 days??? Oops that should read 160 days I hit the keys the wrong way round. It took just over six months for the egg to hatch.

Hi Rick
Good luck with finding a male. When I was looking there was an awfull lot of smallish over fed, fat males for sale. I was really pleased when I finally found the one I have now.
