Had a spare camera added to my CCTV security for my reptile rooms so thought it would be interesting to watch various cages.
Last night I put it in the Black Headed Monitor viv, these being the most shy lizards I have (5 in the viv but only ever seen two! ) I put the camera in, thru a handfull of crickets and giant mealworms in and went back in doors to watch. All I can say is WOW....never seen such great interaction. All 5 came out within minutes of me leaving the room, perfect picture thru the camera, watching them come straight up to it then grabbing the crickets and mealworms. Didn't see any aggression (which was pleasing as there is a big size difference in them all).
Hopefully once I have worked out how to use the camera system I can put a link up to certain screens so you guys can watch what's going on too.
Can't wait for the gila monster breeding season, that should be a great place to put the camera & the bats are great on there too.
(these are webcams but full spec colour CCTV so you should have a great view ) _________________

Or you slurping on your milkshake Scott!
Seriously though, yes that`s really interesting about the interaction you saw Scott as soon as they felt safe and alone. I have often wondered about the notion of using "One way" glass on vivariums. Perhaps that way, if the animals couldn`t see out, but the viewer could see in, then far more "natural" behaviours could be observed. Just an idea. Has anyone tried it? I imagine the glass would not be cheap but surely not that much of a bank breaker? _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

nice idea Peter, only problem could be that it would be mirrored so that may have an effect on the lizards? _________________

Very true. Possibly less of an affect than my great hairy mug though. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD
