just posted a thread about a spur thighed my mate has and was wondering if there was any paper work needed. He mentioned something about you would need it for a young one but because of its age there was no paper work needed when it was originally bought. I havent got a clue just thought someone may have an idea. Its about 15 yr old by the way |

What sort of tortoise is it ibera? If it is an ibera then it is illegal to sell without an artical 10 and you can get a huge fine and even sent to jail. The best you can do is give it away. _________________ Keeper of, Iberas, Horsfields, Red foots, Hermanns, Tunisians, Pancakes and Indian Stars.

post a photo here or look up tortoise species on google and compare.
If you have had the tortoise many years (ie before the laws came into force) you can call defra, tell them the situation and they should issue you what you need. _________________

I was just going to say scott giving it away isn't the best thing, it's merely going to passed about to someone uncaring!
Email DEFRA - one guy helped us out when we lost the paper work - my noodle of a boyfriend threw it out
strangely enough he said the paperwork was only needed if the tortoises were for commercial use in the future or if you planned to sell them on but as long as they came with paperwork originally you were fine, but that does make things difficult when it comes to having them chipped! But if nothing has ever came with them then they will help you especially if it is that old
i won't give the guy's email address out, I am sure he does not want enthusiasts like on one website emailing him quizzing him over his knowledge and making out they know better!

It is illegal to sell a ibera, graeca graeca or tunisian without papers. You can get big fine. But you are allowed to give him away! _________________ Keeper of, Iberas, Horsfields, Red foots, Hermanns, Tunisians, Pancakes and Indian Stars.

Dirty dozen, due to the age of the tort you only need to contact defra and they will sort it out and give you the correct way to go about it.
And you wont get sent to prison or any of that crap trust me. |
