Hi can anyone please help, we have just got a 3'x18"x18" its got a heat mat, uv light, log, wood chips, water and food bowls. Do we need a heat lamp too ? can anyone help please

What are you going to house ie snake/lizard/tortoise....

It all depends on the temperatures your wanting to achieve.

Hi, well if you're housing Rankin's dragons, a heat lamp is essential for them to bask in

dope Embarassed ... sorry i didn't read the the full title.

I would think 60-100w bulb depending on the type you use and where you mount it. Some bulbs give off a wider beam where as others are designed to focus on a smaller spot.

Any of the diurnal lizards need an over head basking heat source (ie cermaic bulb or spot light). The heat mat isn't needed and could cause problems if it's not on a thermostat.

here's a pic to show how I set mine up, I also add a large rock or platform under the spot buld to allow even hotter basking spots.

The spot buld is controlled by a habistat dimming thermostat.
