Do you remove the micro crickets from the tubs you arrive in and put them in something else? Obviously as there are no air holes, whenever I put damp lettuce etc it all seems to go manky as there is no fresh air going in....
Thinking of putting them in larger clear plastic boxes with tiny air holes in lid which they should not be able to jump upto etc? Any other ideas? Cant stop stuff getting damp and messy. _________________ I didnt do it. |

most of the tubs ive gotten do have holes in . not sure if its cause they are the micro ones that they dont .
try not too feed them anything too moist to begin with they love fish food. then transfer them into a ventilated tub .
if you put them into something bigger then unless you are using 4-5 tubs they will be akward to catch unless they are getting fed on one sitting _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

Yeah the micro cricket boxes dont have holes for escaping reasons! I do feed predominantly fish flakes but as they "dry up" so quickly thought lettuce may help them get their water content.
Your probably right about them being awkward to tap out in a big plastic box though
Will damp cotton wool be sufficent though and will this go mouldy. _________________ I didnt do it. |

i used to house them in a pet pal but it ended up more hassle than its worth
for water i used a coffee lid with cotton wool in it but dont use micro crickets so wouldnt know if that is ok for them or not . _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

A small spud cut open exposing the "flesh" provides moisture for micros. Keep an eye for it drying out though and replace it as neccessary. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

I transfer all mine to mini plastic tanks e.g. exo fauanriums either cut some muslin to fit under snap on lid to prevent escapees, or just only put a bit of egg box in lower part of tank.
Easy to feed off, remove lid, egg flats ensure only small tear off's. hold tank near herps, lift out piece of egg box and tap. Easy as.
They do require moisture being so small, i use lettuce or any salad but keep it in coffee jar lid to prevent damp spreading. grated carrot is also superb for the crix and also for the herp as contains carotenoids that help colour development. Also i use wheat bran, again in a jar lid or if on floor of tank they will hide in it.
For the crix hatchlings I soak a cotton wool ball then squeeze out so they have moisture, else they die real quick if they dehydrate. Place yer balls in a jar lid again to prevent damp spreading.
Another good way of feeding them off is to place empty loo roll tubes in with them they will go into the rolls to take cover just ensure one end of roll is covered in a piece of muslin or kitchen roll secured with laccy band then place hand over open end of tube, dust them and shake into herp viv etc. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

I use oranges as food and water, just cut into halves or segments etc
In a small tub perhaps apple of potato will work better than orange. _________________
