finally picked up my leucs at the weekend, fantastic frogs, they seem a lot more aware of their environment than many of my lizards, the plan was to keep them in a contico while my terrarium plants and custodians established themselves, but every time i opened it the darts shot to the top making it impossible to add fruit flys without either frogs or flys escaping, so now their in a 2 ft pennine seem to be settling in well. fly eating machines to say the least Very Happy pics too follow shortly

Well done Mattie. Have you got a Sainsbury`s homebase near to you?

The reason I ask, in the garden section (the indoor part) they have some propogators for £2.99. Thay are excellant temporary accomodation for darts. All the customising that needs to be done is a few rows of tiny holes drilled high one end, and low the other. I also drill a row each end of the tray also to let CO2 escape. A layer of washed LECA, overlayed with moss, a coconut hide over the lid of a pringle tube, couple of bits of cork bark, stick some cuttings (scidapsus is ideal) in the leca, add some water and you are away.

Feeding and spraying is easy, there are two sliding panels in the roof which you can close when not in use. I spray through the open slot by putting the sprayer nozzle right up close. Feeding, buy a kitchen funnel, put it through the open slot, and tip your feeder insects in.

They are rigid transparent plastic and make perfect temporary accomodation. Partial water changes are easy too. Put the entire thing some where safe, such as an empty bath WITH THE PLUG IN! Remove the frogs then if you like to a plastic box or whatever. I then use a large syringe, push it into the leca and suck the water out. Easy. The water level does build up suprisingly quickly with the daily spraying. When I stayed down with Rick, I set some up for him and they are working well for him too. I had five in a row on a slim strip heat mat connected to a stat and it worked really well. A long tube sat on the top of all five props also and the plants went absolutely beserk.

Cheap as chips and the humidity levels stay nice and high in them. Don`t forget and leave the slot open after feeding though, the frogs like to clamber about in the foliage and get danderously close to the opening so make sure you leave it closed after feeding/spraying.
Good luck. Wink

Having said that, a Pennine should be fine also. Laughing

great idea peter i seen somerthing similiar in B&Q even came with thermostat and heat cable was tempted, only problem with the pennine is having the light inside and and the frogs lodging themselves in the space were the glass runners attatch to the viv.

im have a little problem with cotton wool type mold at the moment seems to be growing all over the compost, ive read this is normal in a new set up but its still a bit concerning

peter do you use tap water on your frogs if so do you use a dechlorinater water conditioner? at the moment im using bottled spring water but was thinking of switching to tap treated with a aquariam water treatment like haloex

I am really fortunate in that the water where I live comes out of the tap at PH 7. Perfect. I leave it to stand for 48 hours in a wide mouthed vessel to de chlorinate.

Bottled water is a better bet than the majority of Tap water in the country, up North i can be hard enough to walk on, but these can vary enormously with the mineral content and beed to be checked up on. Rain water is an alternative and can be collected also, have a read of this; http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alan.cann/articles/rainwater.html
