Just like to share my experience of why Sellers should not send any Reptiles through the Royal Mail.

I purchased two jungle corn snakes about a month ago, which I believed where going to be couriered according to details given to me via advert and seller. Only to find out once they had been posted, that the courier was not available so they posted them via the Royal Mail without consulting me, not only is this illegal it also ended up with the death of my corns.

When the post woman came to deliver a letter she stated that there was a parcel awaiting collection at the depot, my wife then went down to collect (2 mins away from house), My wife was then told that the postie had refused to carry parcel due to the smell, She then opened the parcel to find the two hatchlings dead inside individual tubs.

I can confirm the snakes where packaged in individual tubs with holes in which where packed lightly with toilet tissue, they where both secured within a large post office box with screwed up newspaper and the box also had air holes.

I will not name the seller as on contacting them they stated this was the first time they had sent anything out this way and they would not use this method again.

If you cannot collect only TNT or a Proper Animal Courier should be used.

I understand by buying the snakes I am partly to blame for there short life.

And the Problems go on.
Since the incident the seller offered a refund which took a while to come through (over 2 weeks), I originally paid £80 which was to include courier delivery, which I agree is cheap. I ended up with £50 refund as that is all that arrived in the post (Special Delivery) on contacting the seller he stated that he had sent £70 deducting £10 for a postage method I did not agree with (£1.75 for post office box and £2.96 for special delivery, doesn't add up to £10). I have contacted the royal mail but they have said the seller needs to deal. Still awaiting there Reply (over 1 week). I know its only a bit of money but the whole deal has been a problem since day one. Sad

that's terrible, sorry to hear they died.

As for you not getting a full refund....I would suggest that you give a certain period of time and if they fail to refund in full you pass the details on to the Royal Mail and failing that the RSPCA, they will be only to happy to prosecute.

That is disgraceful, the persons responsible should not be allowed to keep let alone trade in animals,as Scott said I'd get on to the RSPCA.As you say if you want animals couriered TNT is the only way to go.

I use TNT, not the cheapest method but legal!

You would be amazed, or maybe not, at the amount of people who do not want to pay for a proper legal courier service! When I have wanted a certain herp I have driven half way across the uk and back to get it whats the big deal unless you dont drive etc. My time is very limited but I will still do this. I have even personally delivered herps that have taken a whole day to drop off and do the return journey.

Still thats life innit.
