Amphibian Pellets
Are these just sold as such but really trout pellets does anyone know?
What goes into a good trout pellet does anyone know?
What goes into a good amphibian pellet if they are different?
Can trout pellets if different be given to amphibians, I don't see why not?
Thanks _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

I prefer to use Reptomin. I have brought several species of Xenopus into breeding condition several times and reared metamorphs to adulthood no problem... seems fine for these frogs

I use the Reptomin sticks too. I did buy some pellets once for the axies but to be honest they sunk so fast that my rather dim axies didn't even see them and found them more by accident. I have also used trout pellets- the axies ate them but I cant say if they enjoyed them or not.I do recall buying some fresh prawns once and a few of them were carrying huge egg sacs- the axies enjoyed those. My Xenopus enjoy almost everything presented to them and at the moment are enjoying a fish food which comes in multi coloured balls.

No, the ones I supply are made for laboratory use i.e. Xenopus & Axolotls. I don't have the ingrediants but they are highly scented to encourage feeding and growth apears better on these pellets than trout or salmon pellets I've tried in the past.
They also seem to be readily taken by most aquatic amphibian species I've had freshly imported WC animals take them without prompting.
Last year I even managed to raise batches of Tylototriton larvae purely on the pellets and nothing else, they morphed much bigger than those larvae raised on livefoods. _________________ Andrew Tillson-Willis

Very interesting. I just wondered what goes into an amphbian pellet. I know there are so many differnt versions of trout pellets and have heard of people using the trout p's to feed amphibians. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
