I recently introduced my two Albig's together (both female) and they have been fine until today. I had the larger one out (32") for a while and as soon as i put her back she chased the smaller one (24" and a fair bit lighter build) and bit her tail. It wasn't enough to cause any serious damage but did break the skin slightly on the underside of her tail.

I have separated them for now but I'm really worried. Is this natural dominant behavior? If so could it go far enough to result in the death of one of them? I don't know what to do. I would not be fair of me to try and home two adult Black Throats in separate enclosures, i simply don't have the space. I could also not live with myself if it resulted in the serious injury or even death of one of them.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I'm afraid that no one can predict the outcome for you. Eventually things will settle between them, either through them learning to get along or through one killing the other.

The only thing you can do is keep a close eye on them when they are together and try to supply the enclosure with enough of everything (basking spots, hide spots, food) so they don't have to compete

Cheers Dave. There new enclosure is under construction so ill just have to get a moving with it and hope they are OK. If it turns nastier I'm afraid one will have to go.

There seems to be a mental issue with some monitors and BDs for that matter. As when you get one out, its leaving its domain, so when you put it back it has to reassert its dominance (even some otherwise submissive animals will do it)
