That`s a damselfly larvae of some sort. Not the ideal cohabitor for baby toads really. Wink

Ugly looking brute, I don't like the damselfly larvae either. Shocked Wink

I keep quite a few tanks with various tadpoles in and other bits on the floor in my bedroom, an uncovered large tub with water plants growing in it, was swarming with mosquito larvae, not good in the bedroom!

I don`t dislike them, rather I find them fascinating. Dragon flies and Damselflies are one of my favourite`s amongst British wildlife, but as the larvae feed on tadpoles and newly metamorphosised frogs and toads , (amongst other things) I wouldn`t let one stay in a tank with small amphibians. Having said that, I don`t know how big Negri`s toadlets are now. They may possibly be large enough to turn the tables but the safest option would be to remove it. Wink

It`s the larvae of either a dragon fly or a Damsel fly Vicky.

Depending on the species, they can spend up to two years in the water as a nymph. Then they climb up a reed stalk out of the water and morph into an adult.

Where did you get your weed from? That`s probably what harboured it.

They are voracious predators and have an extendable "mask" which shoots out, and stabs and grabs the prey. Then they suck the insides out! Nice aye! Tadpoles and newly morphed frogs are a favourite food. Well done spotting it. Wink

Well done for spotting it. Obviously wherever Pets r us get their plants from, an aquatic nursery probably, damselflies have access to where the plants are grown. Ugly ducklings when nymphs but turn into beautiful adults. Smile

If you keep it you will have to feed it various prey items. Your best bet is to release it in a canal or natural pond. Wink
