i had a tank of adult locusts(9 of them ) feeding them on brocolli , lettuce , cress , and some grass grown from seed .

have kept them alive for about 6-7 weeks after about week 5 i had some babies .

nearly 20 babies in total .

seperated them into a smaller tank next to the big tank so it shares the lamp .
had a couple die in the first two days to be expected i thought .

the others where all growing pretty steady feeding on cress and broccoli .

i had also grew a pot of bird seed and once this grew i fed the greens to the locusts along with brocoli and cress .

then they started to die near enough 2 a day till there was none left .

do you think the bird seed greens killed them ?

doubt if any of that killed them. Just stick to something simple though, I feed my locust spring greens and dried bran. If you want them to grow and breed you need to keep the heat up in the 90's too.

they were doing fine though untill i added this to there diet .

whats the best thing to feed them bought from a super market ?

I just feed mine wheat bran and fresh washed greens, romaine lettuce, spring greens etc. Keep them in a well ventilated tank on top of a long heat mat.

As Scott said, keep it simple. Fresh leafy greens and wheat bran. Keep them dry at all times. Humidity is a killer.

fresh leafy greens ?

cabbage and lettuce ?

was defo not wet or humid . got kitchen roll on the bottom just in case but this was dry .

Romain lettuce goes down well.

I tend to keep my hoppers at a lower temp than the adults, the little ones seem to dehydrate a bit quickly and die, might just be my experience of them. When they are a well established I keep them at the same temp as the adults. For the first week or so I lightly soak a couple of cotton wool balls and put them in with the hoppers so they can get moisture if needed as the bits of green can dry out quickly in my herp room.

going to try again after the weekend .

still got 4 adults who must be about 200 in locust years , think they may be too old and frail to be reproducing .

how do you keep the breeding box moist with out the container misting up ?

i had it moist at the beginning then never touched while it was in . i was ready to give up when all of a sudden there were babies popping up everywhere
