While it does not offer much in the way of captive husbandry of Varanus melinus, here is an article which elaborates on the confusion which the pet trade has created by adopting the common name, "Yellow Tree Monitor" for this species of monitor lizard.

http://treemonitors.com/melinusconundrum.htm

If you are interested in reading about the natural history of this species (I am not aware of any publications dealing with the captive husbandry of this species), be sure to check out.

BOHME, W. AND T. ZIEGLER. 1997. Varanus melinus sp/n., ein neuer waran aus der V. indicus gruppe von den Molukken, Indonesien. Herpetofauna. 19(111): 26-34.

BAYLESS, M.K. and J.A. ADRAGNA. 1999. The Banggai Island Monitor: Notes on distribution, ecology, and diet of Varanus melinus. The Vivarium. 10(4): 38-40.

I hope this helps a bit, good luck!

Cheers,

Bob

Very interesting read there, thanks for posting it. I have noticed a big amount of confusion between people when using common names for animals.
