Tamodine safe? Salamander wound...

One of my salamanders has a small wound on its side, about 2-3 mm (is white, not pink and sore looking). I
have cleaned it with fresh water. Is it safe to use Tamodine...?

Just read the following advisory... We would advise against using TAMODINE in amphibia since they can absorb chemicals through the skin. We are aware of a case of an axolotl which metamorphosed following TAMODINE treatment, presumably due to the iodine entering the circulation.

Any experiences? Other advice to ensure wound is ok and heals properly...

Personally I would keep it clean (damp paper towel substrate) and wash the area under cool clean water daily and see how that goes for a few days before trying to treat it with anything. If the wound appears to be spreading then a treatment may be required. There are a number of things that you can treat Salamanders wounds with, if it gets worse or does not start to heal send me an e-mail and I'll talk you through a few things to try.
