Thanks to my Dutch friend , I was able to set up some fruit beetles 'pachnoda'. Only had them a week and already they are pupaeting.
The grubs are like large juicy catepillars, the size of your thumb. Hopefully in a few months I'll have enough to start using as feeders, reckon the monitors and bearded dragons will love them.
Anyone else keeping them? _________________

I'm hoping to get some at Hamm. They are too expensive to buy in bulk over here.
I've kept them before, but I tell you what, the larvae are nowhere near the size of your thumb lol.... Unless you're not very big....
They get to about an inch long? You must have something other than Pachnoda. Or they are are a different species to the one's I kept.
How many have you used to start your colony?

They sure are the size of your thumb AND can give one hell of a bite too- I speak from experience! I had the grubs for weeks and they didnt appear to do anything other than drag food down their tunnells. Then one day I noticed all these sort of soil balls around the edges of the tank, within a short while all these stunning sun beetles were gimbiling about! I didnt realise the huige maggoty type larva could nip so when i picked one up it was a shock as it caught some skin my finger and wouldnt let go- evil little bugger.

The ones I kept were Pachnoda marginata peregrina.
I sure as hell don't remember them getting that big, but to be fair, it was quite a few years ago....
I'm guessing that 50 or a 100 would be a good number to start a feeder colony?

I've got a colony of these.
I've got some grubs going spare if anyone is interested, also got a few on e-bay if you want to grab a bargain. _________________ Andrew Tillson-Willis

I couldn't find any at a reasonable price in the UK, but have just picked up 50 large grubs of Pachnoda butana fron Hamm. I suspect that these are the same as those in Pollywogs pictures above.
