Hi they are Varanus a. brachyurus, Red ackies are Varanus a. acanthurus.
They would mark them up as true yellows to get a premium for their animals. If they are true pure yellows, then they certainly would be worth more than just plain 'Ackies' that could be crosses from several ssp or localities.
£295 is a touch expensive if they are babies, but for adults via a shop that's not too bad. Always expect to pay 50% - 100% more if you buy thru a shop rather than direct from a breeder (on most animals).
There many different dwarf monitor species, not really any colour morphs except the Leucistic King's Monitor V.kingorum, do a search on here, there are some photos
Here's some of my animals (not just the monitors...sorry) http://captivebred.co.uk/gallery2.htm

thanx for your info scott. the shop advertising them as cb05 it can be very confusing when one person calls something by one name and someone else call it something different. it would be much easier to just say yellow ackies for sale lol _________________ 2.3.4 bearded dragons

Yellow V. acanthurus are extremely variable in color. I don't think anyone in Europe can guarantee selling 100% yellows.
On the other hand true red ackies have only recently appeared on the European market, I therefore think most yellows are still true yellows (but, no one can tell for sure)
To illustrate that colors are variable, take a look at my breeding females (all yellows!) shown here as (sub)adults. Most of them are more red than any other color, yet they still are yellows.
Greetings from Holland,
Siebren |
