hi,
does sound like your heat mat is too hot, you want a max floor temp of 32c with an overall air temp of 26. Try putting the heat mat on a Habistat Pulse stat (about £30) |

Is the snake in a viv or contico? How big is the snake?...if it is young and in a contico I would get a pulse stat or at least an on/off stat connected straight away as the temps you mention are too hot..if its in a viv i prefer heating a viv using a dimmer stat and bulb for snakes. |

yep, a viv with a spot bulb on a stat would be good. |

yes, but the ambient temp may still be too low.
You need to check what the air temp is. The heat mat will not warm the air only objects above it. |

How much of the floor does the heat pad cover?
If it only covers a third, then just raise it up a little until the floor temp is 32c. That will be OK as the summer approaches but you will a proper wooden viv, with a spot light and thermostat ready for when the weather starts to get colder.
The spot lamp will cost about £4 for fittings in B&Q, £2 for the bulb and £45 for a DIMMING thermostat. |

How big is the snake?...tubs are fine to grow them on in as long as you have stat controlling the mat.. |
