I've just redone my tank for my FBTs, with fresh mosses, ferns, etc (locally collected and cleaned)....
Strange thing then happened... I had created a small area of sphagnum moss...
The largest of my FBTs almost immediately jumped onto it... He sligthly blow itself up, then hunched up his back - I thought he was then going to slough its skin... But no, he then started turning round on the spot in a circle - appearing to sniff the moss, and then stuck his snout in the moss, and burrowed under the moss and came out the other side...
There had been tadpoles in the same water where sphagnum moss came from... The moss was cleaned out with aquatise water, but there must have been some traces left... It was really funny to watch - when on for over a minute - looked like some strange ritualistic rain dance...
Wish I had taken some photos... _________________ Tiger Salamanders (1.2)
