One of the best ways to stop this In the first place Is to keep the water clean & filtered at all times with UV light and dry basking/land areas.
If the worst should happen and you notice something abnormal on the shell then you can use tamodine (this Is an Iodine based solution you can get from most specialist pet shops)
1: Rub some over the Infected area and leave the turtle In a dry container for five minutes, wipe the excess off and then dry with some tissue or a cloth.
2: Then you need to use an athlete foot cream, I use Daktarin, put some on the end of your finger and rub this In to the Infected area, then place the turtle back in the dry container (a bucket Is fine) for half an hour to allow the cream to be absorbed Into the shell.
Do this twice a day for 2 weeks and this should clear up mild shell Infections - If this hasn't cleared It up totally see a vet Immediately.
I must stress that this will work If you monitor your turtles closely and are a good owner - you will notice abnormalities to the shell and this method stops things before they get started. If fungus Infection Is spread over even a quarter of the shell - see a vet Immediately! |
