Hello everyone, Took these pics today. Plus witnessed some mating behaviour last night but could not really work out whether the copulation was successful or not. Here are 6 individuals, I think I may have 5.5 but it hard to tell with these. |

they look quite big but they are only around 55-65cm. I cannot see them getting much bigger than this, I would say say around the size of an adult tristis but more chunky similar proportions to an adult ackie. |

Yes hopefully I will see something this year. The origin is E.U. captive bred the ancestry is the middle east. As far as I am aware this is the largest group of legal c.b. griseus on the planet and the only legal c.b. specimens in the E.U. |

Good luck with them, are they any harder to keep than most other varanids? _________________

No infact I would say the opposite that they are easier to keep than most varanids I have experienced. There is some literature about griseus that I have found to be complete rubbish, I think this is because of the simple fact that not many people keep this species partly due to the CITES restrictions.
In certain literature it says that they need to be hibernated/brumated and that they only shed twice a year, complete nonsense!! This may happen in the wild but its not a necessity to keeping and breeding in captivity. The parents of these were never hibernated/brumated. Mine shed all the time like all varanids. I find them easy to maintain just like ackies maybe easier, they can be kept together so far no problems, they are not as food orientated like other monitors I have kept and they are quite cheap to feed as they do not eat great amounts when compared to other varanids. I found this species the best to keep in captivity so much so that I will focus only on these from now on. |
