Hi,
What temps do you keep your gargoyles in and when do you find they start laying (Month).
I have a 1.2 group and was wondering when i would expect eggs from them if they breed.
Does there need to be a cetain background temp to induce breeding?
I also have 0.2 adults and 0.2 babies.
The 1.2 group is kept in a mesh cage (terry thatcher) with alot of follage and a live plant with kitchen towel on the floor and a Tupperware box with cocofibre in on the floor.
Any info will be great thanks. _________________ Play Hard |

One of my females (her first year of breeding) laid an infertile clutch on 2nd February - room temperature was around 75oF day and 71oF night. I put her in with the male about two weeks later and she's due to lay her second clutch any day now (the past three nights she being digging around for a suitable laying site). I don't keep my Gargoyles together - I house them all individually - and only put them together for a week or so for mating. I have found that they will start laying when they feel ready. _________________ Best wishes, Jackie

They are all 6 so i reakon they have bred before, i have just aquired them in the last few months though. The male is stunning, bright red and massive (about 10 inches total length) the female aint far of either.
How can you tell if the female has eggs in her?
I have been told that generally the female will start using the egg box 1 week before laying (getting used to it) and she has just started getting in it for the first time 2 days ago and seems to go in i for a few hours every night sinceWhat sex is your white Gargoyle? I have a female White and black striped gargoyle and she is purely white and black some days (its wierd though cause other days she goes brown and cream) but normally she is totally black and white. The male looks way to big to put with her yet even though she is 2 going on 3. _________________ Play Hard |

I'm assuming you mean the Gargoyle in my avatar? So far it appears to be female. She has changed colour quite a bit since that photo was taken (she was only a couple of weeks old then. She was my first and so far only Gargoyle to successfully hatch). See this thread for how she looks now: http://www.captivebred.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2820
In my experience it is hard to tell if a gargoyle is gravid or not, until the time of when she is actually about to lay. At that point you can make out the shape of the egg (they seem to get very big quickly, towards the end). As you will know, gargoyles don't have translucent skin - in fact most have patterned tummies - so it's to hard to visibly see the eggs developing. What I mean is with other geckos, leopards for example, you can clearly see the eggs forming just by looking at their tummy. I find you can tell more on their behaviour. Mine seem to stop feeding as prolifically (feeding roughly once a week, as opposed to every other day). Ohter things to look out for is they will dig tester laying sites until they find one they are happy with.
I have found they will lay whereever they want to...lol. In the past I have provided laying boxes for my aurics and one used it and one laid the eggs underneath it (I still don't know how she managed that), more often that not, they simply ignore it. Now I don't bother with laying boxes. I have a 'maternity shelf' in my room. My gravid females are housed individually in extra large pet-pals. I basically keep things simple. I have two inches + of coco-fibre as a substrate, with some branches and leaves for climbing and security. They seem happy with this set-up - as soon as the eggs are laid they're feeding again. I think it's because they are away from the pestering males.
When your female has laid the eggs be sure to get her calcium levels back up. Extra calcium carbonate in her food. Also try offering her some pulped papaya as it's very high in calcium.
Oooo your aurics sound lovely - post some photos please... _________________ Best wishes, Jackie

i will take some pics tommorrow as i am off work and i am cleaning all the gargoyles out. Thank you very much for all the info you have supplied. I Have cresteds aswell but find gargoyles so much more interesting in both behaviour and colour patterns. One of my cresteds has been rasied from a very sick babie i rescued and now she is dog tame and spends pretty much all here time on my shoulder either asleep or surveying her kingdom. _________________ Play Hard |

As promised here are some pictures of my gargoyles.
Here is O.B.E he is really big and my only male at present but i will be getting a couple more in the future, just looking for specific ones.
This is just so you can see how big he is (i have pretty big hands by the way) the camera doesn't really pic up how red he is!!
This is a babie i got from scott last year and is starting to show some great colours.
Last gecko for the moment, This is the black and white one i have been going on about so much. She is my favourite i would say and as soon as she is ready she is getting mated to O.B.E.

Another of the white gecko just to show you what she looks like, she does get a little whiter and blacker than that but that is quite a good representation of her colour.
