Hello all.
I'm almost 24 year old monitor "freak" from Finland. I wandered here on my quest to find myself and/or my monitor a cb female savannah monitor or two. I've been interested in all kinds of animals for my whole life and we've had many kinds of animals from mice to horses when I was living with my family. When we moved together with my wife I had a thought of finally getting some lizard/-'s, set up an old fish tank, checked temps etc. and decided it's suitable for a savannah monitor. After he got bigger I asked my friend who's a carpenter to build me a custom plywood box. Completely fell in love with these animals and got deeper the more I read about their wc business.
So feel free to pm me if you know where to get cb savannahs in northern-central Europe. |

Hi Henrik,
Welcome to the site, think you're our first member from Finland.
Not heard of any true CB savanah monitors available, certainly not recently anyway. They are fairly easy to obtain as w/c or captive farmed here in the UK and probably Holland & Germany too. What's the reptile scene like in Finland, many restrictions?
regards

The reptile scene in Finland is maybe 10 years behind Germany or Sweden. There aren't that many restrictions on keeping animals as long as their cites papers are ok and the needed terrarium conditions are met. I think only very large (over 3m) and endangered/ cites I species need permission. Even hot herps do not need one but the keepers are quite much "If you don't know where to get one, you shouldn't get one" they are quite protective of their hobby and won't sell them if they aren't sure of ones history among venomous. I'm not into very large or dangerous reptiles since my wife wants to have some room in the apartment so I'm actually not sure. Checked some laws but couldn't find any mention about restrictions. I'll check it out and correct the information if I'm speaking legends.
I've been looking around for the cb savannahs for a few months now but no results. I can get monitors through pet stores but I'd rather not for obvious reasons. Local store keeper said he could get dwarf savannah monitors!? Haven't heard of them ever and no one at the finnish herp board either, have any of you? |

Nope, not heard of Dwarf savannahs, would be nice if there was such a lizard.
Glad you haven't got too many restrictions, certain animal 'welfare' bodies over here are pushing for increased laws and I also understand Sweden has many reptile restrictions. _________________
