I am using calci sand for substrate with my chameleons. Has any one had anyone had problems using this?
I know the use of substrate is not recommended for chams, the calci sand is working out quite expensive, any good alternatives?
I don't like the look of newspaper in the bottom of a viv, or is this the only safe substitute to use?
Or just not put any in there I suppose.
What does everyone else do please.

We use coco-fibre for our Panther Chameleon. I find it holds the humidity well. _________________ Best wishes, Jackie

I must admit I like the look of the calcium substrate and have not had any problems with it yet, just the expensive. I buy unlabeled bags at my local rep shop, it's not T-Rex stuff but for a coulple of lbs it's £4. I did spy a big bag of calcium stuff from a quarry on their stock shelves I suspect this is where they make up the lil bags from. COULD NOT PEAK THE ADDRESS THOUGH! _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Look up Calcium Carbonate suppliers, mind you, you will probably have to buy 60 sacks (a pallet). _________________

You can still buy it I have done my whole mansion in it! It's right back in fashion!
Good idea actually, never even thought of it, and it's cheap for a big roll, just cut to size to fit! Very good idea and it's quite absorbant if you get a heavy grade!
