Yep, mixing a gargoyle with a crested can result in tail loss (as can putting two gargoyles or even two cresteds together) although I haven't heard about any deaths though.
Gargoyle's are more likely to eat tails than cresteds.

That's why I house all my Gargoyles individually...lol. I only put them together for mating.

Have a look at this pic of a gargoyle - look at those teeth!!!

lol....evil looking beast!

I have probably lost no more than 4 gargoyle tails out of 80 lizards, I think I've yet to lose a crested tail out of 200 plus.

I did lose a chahoua tail, from a viv accident. I did read that they would not grow back, anyone else no if that's true? (doubt it's true as mine has started to regrow).

I thought the only Rhac which didn't regrow the tail was ciliatus. I would think it would depend on how much tail has been lost. If it's come off at the tail base it will grow back but will be shorter than the original.

I stand corrected...lol. I've just had a look at the de Vosjoli et al. book and it states: "As a rule, R. chahoua that automize their tails at the base regenerate only a pointed stub and not a full tail." Pg131

that's where I read it...lol..

I'll have to check back with my male and see if he's just got a little 'stub' or if it's kept growing. He lost it right at the base.
