Here are some of my lock/shift boxes. The idea is that the snake can be hooked/guided by hook into the box then closed in behind perspex. This way the snake can be seen too. The box can be lifted out with the snake in it and set aside safely for cleaning out the viv. The snake will rarely defecate in its own hide, so they rarely need cleaned except a bedding change. Also it makes ease of moving from viv to viv an absolutely stress free affair.....good for taking to vets too if need be.
I like the heavy duty look, and made them kind of industrial looking by battering the wood a bit when I was finished, then varnishing with low odour varnish. Hope it gives anyone who needs it an insight into how you need never be bitten or even have to come into direct contact with your venomous unless absolutely necessary. I been using this idea for a few years now, but here are some of the new ones in the new setup, just finished in january past.

Looking good Lee, I used to use Parrot nest boxes with a slip piece that could just be pushed over the entry/exit hole. The rear slide piece was replaced with clear perspex so you could see inside, both 'doors' were lockable. _________________

Very nice
For the bigger, nervy elapids I would change the design just a little bit, but all in all well done _________________ ngiyakuthanda Sonvanger |

What would you do design ways for the elapids? Make the front flap opaque instead of transparent?
Cheers guys.....they are an absolute must for me. _________________ "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy" - Tom Waits |

Yes. The nervous elapids won't go into a box with that much viewpoints (for lack of a better word). Making it opaque will help, but then it defeats the object, because you cannot inspect the snake. I would make lid opaque, but maybe use some clear glass for the top. _________________ ngiyakuthanda Sonvanger |
