Anybody know where I can find some? They would be for a young lad who is very into having some terrapins. I have discouraged him from the red slider route as I think that they are totally unsuitable (much like iguanas but the turtle version) and have recomended Reeves as I had some a few years back and found them to be hardy, interesting and suitably sized captives. I ended up giving mine away back then to someone who had just "taken back to the shop" two rapidly growing red ears that had outgrown their enclosure. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

Right, these are my findings; Chinnemys reevesi should be easy enough to get hold of as they are being bred in their tens of thousands on Chinese turtle farms. Unfortunately imported turtles for the pet trade are of the other, supposedly more "interesting" farmed species. It is the larger race (as they are bred for the wok) that is more available now, males 14cm and females almost 20cm, so don`t make the mistake of thinking they are the smaller type that used to be imported 5-10 years ago.
Better news though, someone in Holland has hatchlings available of the smaller type and I shall be going over in a couple of weeks time to get fetch some, so let me know if you are interested. Do you know the sex of your animal and whether it is the large or small race. GET YOUR TAPE MEASURE OUY BASICALLY! You wouldn`t be able to keep them together until they had grown on but they are pretty fast growing.
Anyway, here is a website that may interest you with links to more sites at the end; www.peter.waterschildpad.nl The owner of this site also breeds Reeves (small type) but does not expect to have any of a suitable sise for sale until October .

I get the distinct impression that the breeder, Paul, is a genuine enthusiast and is not going to charge the earth. His words ;" I am not going to give them away but if I wanted to make money I would advertise them on the internet" which he doesn`t. He has asked all the right questions so far and said all the right stuff and it`s blatantly obvious to me through reading his mails that his main concern is that his painstaking work in breeding them is not wasted on an unsuitable home.
I had to REALLY hunt him down like a blood hound, and in the end HE contacted ME which is why I said to e-mail me your own e-mail address which I will give to him. He will contact you and if you sort it out between you I don`t see why I cannot pick some up for you when I go to him. They will be probably too small to put with yours for a couple of years & tend to be a lot more aquatic when younger than in later life so you will have to sort them out seperate accomodation.
I will see if I can get him to post some pics & experiences to this this forum too. _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD
