Hey all, had a friend here for the weekend so we went for a spot of herping - was a good day
Common Toad - Bufo bufo
Common Frogs - Rana temporaria
Almost Fully metamorphosised palmate Newt - Triturus helveticus
and this fly was drinking my blood - it burst when i pulled it off me, what is it?

yea Lynne, it was sucking the blood on my arm & when i pulled it off, it burst in my fingers, and on my arm, and pretty much a fair few other places, nasty stuff lol - hope it was just my blood and not some weirdos blood too...
reasonably concerning actually
but i have no idea what it was, too big to be a midge _________________ Reptiles by Erik Paterson

Looks like a horsefly. They're nasty things, and you'll probably have a sore, itchy spot on your arm now. _________________

I'm used to like a million midge bites ( ) so it ain't all that itchy, but yea, its a bit sore yes
i get bitten by them horse fly things more int he summers gone too, it hurts like hell when they get you initially, but that wee one i didn't notice till it was pointed out to me, and it got a good ol' drink
hate bugs haha
