We had a buisness/pleasure trip to Pohpei Micronesia last week.

I thought I had seen some very nice island localities in indonesia, this place was incredible.

Thought i would share a couple of photos.

And of course they have Kava (called sakau locally), which is made in a unique way there.

Huge kava plant, the root of this one is around 100kg



The raw root ready for pounding:



The root on the pounding stone with the pounding rocks !



The root pounded and with the hibiscus ready for sliming up



The kava being wrapped ready for squeezing



The squeeze !!! the liquid is collected in a bowl and transferred into a communal coconut shell for drinking, a great experiance !!!

LOL..it was a truly amazing place and I would highly recommend it the snorkling and diving were out of this world.

Although I am sure the sharks we saw weren't vegetarian ones as the guide said !!

Strangely I have no pictures of me after kava as it seemed to impair my ability to use it...LOL Laughing

Laughing Amazing pics Jon..I always enjoy looking at the pics you post,looks a stunning place..ideal for 10mm wide angle on those beaches..is it the sigma 10-20mm?

God those pics make me want to take a vacation now Cool I'd love to go diving there. Did you see any nice terrestrial animals?

totally amazing place yep quite a few terrestrial beasts also.

the wide angle lens is a canon 10-22 from the ultrasonic range.
