After getting slugs last year i was desperate to try again with this girl during this year. I had her in with my male tiger, although i removed him shortly afterwards as i had a change of heart. She hasnt eaten since november and i was concerned she was gravid from the tiger, however she moved well out of range for anything to have come from him so i introduced my male bali (my prefferred choice of male) and she shed yesterday. I had a damp box in there (which will double up as a laying box, if needed) for the week so when i removed it today she was in there and looking as bright as i have ever seen her. The colour isnt really accurate, but to give you an idea the box is allmost the same yellow colour as this smilie
Hope you like her.........

Thanks. No, the calico is WC - there have been no wild type calicos ever produced in captivity. _________________ TFA

She's fantastic hope it works out! Calico patterning increases with age right? So when they are born do they look normal?
cheers

Thanks, we are hopeful the bali has done his job - only time will tell.
The calico pattern is a somewhat confusing and as yet unknown genetic mess. As first generation offspring (commonly known as "hets") they look normal as a rule although they do have certain characteristics that can identify them with a bit of practice. If PeterF could post up some pics of his offspring from a few years back then you'd see what i mean (yes Pete, that is a hint!!)
The second generation babies (ie the homo form) again look normal as babies with the same characteristics and markers as the "hets", however as they reach maturity they are said to start showing there true form turning into more and more of what you would expect a calico to look like. HOWEVER, and this is a big one - no one other than nerd has any CB calico's that you could call calicos and even these are nothing like the wild types that are imported.
It's a very deep and confusing situation that can be easily dismissed by stating it is a simple recessive gene. That said i believe that dismissal to be complete and utter tripe. There is nothing simple about calicos IMO, no matter what anyone says.
That probably didnt answer your question at all, sorry _________________ TFA

Cheers dan that pretty much does answer my question! I ve got an old(ish its in colour!) issue of reptillian which has a bit on calicos in it, which i must admit look quite a bit different to yours. The article which is probably out of date said that its a form of piedbaldism. So what does a piedball ball look like when its born? Could it be a genetic 'disease'? i m thinking along the lines of a well known popstar! (THRILLER!woo! )
