In case this is of any help, my Vet told me how to kill rodents in a fast and effective way that does not involve suffocating them. Take rodent by base of tail, close to bum, lift out of cage onto hard surface and as the rodent stretches out use co-ordinated movements to whack hard with screw-driver etc at the back of the head/neck whilst AT THE SAME TIME jerking the tail up towards the head. This breaks the neck. The rodent will kick for a short while - as a chicken does - but if done properly it is well and truly dead. |

may I just clear up a ''possible'' confusion ...... Sue is describing Cervical Dislocation . A fast efficient HUMANE way of dispatching a rdent .
Rodent held at start of tail ( thick bit near bum as Sue said ) firm solid object ( screwdriver will do ) is PLACED on neck of Rodent . In a combined movement you push down on the neck WHILST pulling firmly on the tail at start. This swiftly dislocates the spinal cord , resulting in instant death. Twitching as Sue said will invetiably occur ( this is normal ) _________________ 3.7.0 Royals
