i have a few questions about crocodilian care in general. I was wondering if anyone has noticed a temperment difference between genders?
I was also wondering if anyone has used the Mazuri crocodilian diet? Is it just a dietary supplement or can it be used as a diet base?
Thanks Cody Mihm

I have never heard of that diet so can't really comment.

As for gender differences you really take into regard season/breeding cycle. Males can become territorial, even within an enclosure, during mating if females are present but can also become confrontational if females aren't presence to protect his potential territory for females. Plenty of warning signs are shown especially in A.mississipiensis but also seen in A.sinensis such as 'back rumbling' and 'head slapping'.

If you've got this far with both hands Laughing You then have to massive headache of females after laying eggs. They will generally become extremely defensive (e.g. C.porosus), with some species become increasingly defensive after the babies have hatched (e.g. C.niloticus). I have never been involved with Caiman or Alligator reproduction (successfully Rolling Eyes ) so can't comment really on their behaviour that I would have seen or been told about Cool

Cheers James

ok i contacted that breeder about the diet. He said that he only uses it as a supplement but he knows of many zoos that use it as a sole diet. -Cody Mihm
